Let me start by saying I went into watching this movie thinking it was not going to be very good, so the expectation for yet another Hollywood hack job was there. I am the first to admit when I misjudged something, and after watching Mission Impossible III let me just say, I was NOT wrong and I did not misjudge.<\/p>\n
The movie starts at the end of the story and then jumps back in time to set the chain of events that leads up to the tense scene that begins the movie. Not to let the cat out of the bag or anything, but you see Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) wife getting killed, or do you? I suppose that if you had never seen a movie before you might be fooled into thinking that. I honestly was not sure who it was that got shot, but I knew it most certainly was not the new wife.
\nThe story in a nutshell; Ethan Hunt is now a trainer instead of a field agent so he can marry the women of his dreams, one of the agents, Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell) who he trained is captured by the villain Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman). He is talked out of his trainer role and goes back into the field with his old gang to help rescue the agent. They do rescue her and escape, however she is killed in the process.<\/p>\n
This is where the movie just really starts to annoy. The escape scene is filmed to close and dark, half the time I was not really sure who was doing what and what was even going on, or maybe I just was not willing to commit myself to paying that much attention. I suppose flying helicopters through a wind farm would have been exciting if they had filmed better or the bad guys had actually fired their missiles faster.<\/p>\n
Anyway, they get back to headquarters and the Director (are all of these guys jerks?) Cowboy Curtis (Larry Fishburne) lays into them. Trying to move things along here… The mean arms dealer is whom they are trying to capture, they find out where he will be next, Vatican City, because you know the Vatican is where arm dealers like to hang.<\/p>\n
Hunt and Co. capture him by putting a mask on Hunt that makes him look like Owen Davian, never mind the fact that physically they are very different and one is 32″ shorter than the other (Tom Cruise is actually a midget, just ask Nicole). When they are transporting Owen Davian they are betrayed and he escapes, Hunt is then put under arrest, but is helped to escape so he can find the double agent and his wife who has now been captured.<\/p>\n
They end up in Hong Kong or Shanghai, an Asian city..the usual top of the roof antics, capture something and then get chased in the streets and then well, do you really care at this point?<\/p>\n
Mission Impossible III is not a bad movie, it is just not a good one, you know what will happen well in advance so there is no real tension. I just kept thinking they spent how much on this? I guess it is worth the rental, just do not think much about it and pray there is not a 4th one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
